If you prefer off the beaten track experience, these speakeasy bars are definitely a must-visit. Not only are these bars unique, they're instagrammable too.

Hidden joints are all the rage these days, and you’re going to need this guide for where to head to in Bali if you enjoy getting lost; transported to a different world and a different era altogether.

We maybe way past prohibition, but speakeasies are popping up everywhere, and Bali isn’t missing out on the hype. You can grab a drink anywhere in Bali but there’s just a quick - not necessarily cheap - thrill about finding a secret nondescript hideout to spend your evening.

Baker Street Social

The first speakeasy joint in Bali, and some say it’s the best. Look for Shearlock Barbershop in Petitenget and a glass door, go up the stairs to the top and you will be transported into a chic and sleek-looking bar with cement walls and leather seats. The intimate bar has a reputation for its personable bartenders and unique cocktails. Not a bad place to ‘chance’ upon sometime.

Address: Jalan Petitenget No. 17C, Kerobokan Kelod
Bookings: drinks@bakerstreetsocial.com
Opening hours: 8:00pm to 2:00am daily

Bar 68

Have fine whisky while set in a 1920s era. There will be a pianist playing smokey tunes to complete the experience. You can make that happen if you head to IZE Hotel’s Meja Restaurant and look for a staircase that leads you there. Obviously for the discerning whisky drinkers, the bar stocks up on 75 different types and surely there will be one that excites your palate.

40 Thieves

These thieves bagged the Yak Award 2017 for being the best bar. They claim that they no longer deal with cheques or sexual favours but we sure know that they didn’t use those methods to win. Their craft cocktails and hospitality probably scored them the prize. To find out where the thieves are, just head to Mad Ronin, a famous Japanese restaurant and go upstairs.

Note: 40 Thieves may be temporarily closed due to renovation till end of August 2019. Please check before visiting.

Miles & Betty

Fresh on the scene, this one is located on the 3rd floor of Milestone Coffee in Sanur. Owned by the baristas on the first and second floor, they seem to realise that Bali folks want to enjoy some decadence as the day slips away, so they are offering you wine and cocktail after you are done with caffeine.

The BARber

This place is really a barber shop, but beyond its innocent façade, it reveals a full-serviced bar. Located in The Sintesa Jimbaran, this is another one that reminisces the prohibition era with its interior design. You can expect more than a haircut for sure, but you will also be delighted to know that this vintage-themed joint has live music, a billiard table and a big screen LED TV for added entertainment.

Opening hours: 8:00am to 2:00am daily
