Are you a hipster looking for Insta-worthy cafes that also fill your stomach? Head over to these must-go hipster cafes to let your hair down and relax!

Keep yourself in-trend when visiting Singapore. Get yourself a good cup of quality coffee and brunch, as well as photos or videos of aesthetic interiors that are over-qualified for Instagram and leave your followers SHOOK.

Thus Coffee

Tucked away around Upper Thomson, this ain’t your most accessible coffee joint but you’ll definitely get the peace and quiet you want. Their humble setting is great for chilling the afternoon away, except that there is no wifi. However, their menu is worth a mention. They micro-roast their own coffee and they serve hearty meals – yes, one of their dishes is indeed called Hearty Chicken Stew and they also have the likes of the Salmon Grain Bowl and Wagyu Beef Grain Bowl. Their Chicken Cutlet Jjolmyeon is a good take on the Korean cuisine and for brunch, their offerings include the THUS breakfast and the Salmon & Kale Toast. Coffee is brewed with Guatemala and Blue Java and does enough to boost a sleepy afternoon. Worth travelling over if you want some quiet time.

Yahava Koffee Works

Another gem in the Upper Thomson area, Yahava Koffee Works has a spacious interior that allows for big groups. Apart from drinks and some light bites, there isn’t much, so don’t expect to come here for meals. They roast their own brand of beans and take their coffee business seriously. They supply them to other f&b outlets and have their own merchandise which they sell in-store. You can bring one of their tongue-in-cheek slogans home. Peaceful and homely, this place has no wifi but getting you disconnected could mean a better time with your mates or with a book.

Sunray Café

It sits just metres away from The Coffee Daily near Serangoon Gardens but strangely does not get as much attention. Sunray boasts of roasting their own coffee, unlike its neighbour, but their winning ticket is that they allow you to dine with your fur kids. Their grub menu has options ranging from Egg Benny on Belgian Waffles, a Pork Loin Burger to Tom Yam Seafood Fried Rice. And they have escargots for sides. The best part? You can have a pasta for less than 10 bucks. Oh wait. How can we forget food for your fur kids? They (you) get to choose from a nice variety – Scrambled Eggs to Homemade Beef Shepherd’s Pie and you can also celebrate your dog’s birthday with a pre-ordered cake. Café-chillin’ is best with Man’s Best Friend, no?

Twenty Grammes @ Ang Mo Kio

Perhaps it’s the heartland-location that deters the hipsters from flocking over or it could be simply because this is the second outlet to the Twenty Grammes flagship store in North Bridge Road. The atmosphere is what you’d find in a heartland, which means that you won’t be judged for wearing your pajamas when you head down for their signature Yuan Yang Waffles. They are one of the pioneers in the charcoal waffle trend and definitely whip up lip-smackingly good ones. Their selection of ice-cream flavours satisfies the millennials – choose from Root Beer, Famous Amos, Earl Grey and Thai Red Tea. Let’s share some of the hipster goodies with the heartlanders, shall we?

In a quiet corner that leads up to nothing but private houses, you might never have spotted W39 even if you live near Clementi. It’s not too late but you would have had many nice weekend brunches away from maddening crowds if you had known earlier. The delightful little eatery is neatly decorated and serves a lengthy menu for all meal times. They are also cake connoisseurs that may end up being your birthday cake order contact after you’ve tried their Decadent Cheesecakes or the signature Rainbow Cake. They have stacked up a good list of accolades and it’s time to check them out if you haven’t.

The Pound

This unassuming Korean-owned café sits amidst hair salons and the smell of incense paper. Found at Sultan Plaza, a place that you probably have no reason to visit, it sticks out like a sore thumb with its fine-looking décor and stream of Korean patrons. Their focus is of course, on pound cakes, such as the Earl Grey Roll Cake, Strawberry Roll Cake and Fig Pound. Another of their specialties is their Dutch iced coffee.

Percolate Coffee

A neighbourhood gem in the east side of the island, Percolate Coffee is small but well-designed and serves good coffee. The wait staff are friendly and ready to recommend daily cakes and brew. If you know your coffee well, you will recognize the brand of beans they use – Papa Palheta and Nylon Coffee Roasters. Such brands are commonly found in the central areas of Singapore. Expect a reasonably priced menu and an afternoon with a heartland vibe.
